Advancements in technology continue to make our lives more simple. However the impacts of these conveniences can have detrimental effects on our physical bodies – leading to stagnancy and disturbed natural body fuctioning. Exercise and movement, as a result, has become a large area of focus these days to improve these harmful effects.
Exercise and movement
Exercise describes a structured activity where the focus usually is on losing weight, burning calories, or building muscle. Movement, on the other hand, does not require a structured regime and the primary focus is that the activity feels enjoyable.
When it comes to movement vs exercise, many of us tend to avoid a number of exercises because at the beginning they can feel difficult and uncomfortable, and the motivations behind their completion can be rooted in feelings of guilt and shame. The seemingly results-driven exercise industry sometimes makes it difficult for individuals to find an enjoyable way to move.
The motivation behind the “movement” movement is one of body awareness and understanding. This means being aware of what your body is capable of, understanding what is necessary for it to function optimally and knowing the deeper meaning of the power of movement.
Know This. While exercise is one of the best ways to maintain physical fitness, movement is a great way to maintain those benefits for longer. Exercise should be used to help you gain increased flexibility and strength, enabling you to use a wide range of natural movements throughout the entire day. The important part of increasing your movement is choosing a physical activity that you enjoy doing.
It can be as simple as walking to the grocery store, riding a bike to the meetings, using stairs more, and as enjoyable as dancing to your favourite music, hiking with the peace of nature, learning new skills and running, playing with your children. And as you start moving little by little, the ripple effect happens- the movement becomes more and more effortless, revealing the wider capacity of feeling great in your own body.
Movement is a fundamental aspect of life. It affects everything from circulation to digestion to metabolism to immunity. Your daily movement influences both your physical and your mental health. Physically, humans are designed to move, because all life is based on the balance between the stillness and movement.
The benefits of movement
- Maintains healthy functioning of all body systems. Strengthens the connection we have with our bodies
- Releases endorphins and helps relieve stress. Improves clarity, mood, and resilience.
- Helps emotions move through our bodies. Provides an outlet for self expression.
- Generates energy, motivation and inspiration
- Manifests your visions
Building strength and flexibility
Molecular movements are important because they are involved in the process of transfer of molecules from one place to another, translocation of food, transportation of energy, and many more vital activities that are important for the repair and maintenance of the various tissues in the body of the organism.
Regular physical activity not only improves your muscle strength and boost your endurance but also sends oxygen and nutrients to your tissues and helps your cardiovascular system work more efficiently. And when your heart and lung health improve, you have more energy and you feel nourished.
As blood flow increases, your brain and all organs are exposed to more oxygen and nutrients. Exercise also induces the release of beneficial proteins in the brain. These nourishing proteins keep brain cells (also known as neurons) healthy, and promote the growth of new neurons, improving nervous system.
Moving your body allows blood to flow freely, helps your body to maintain good joint and muscle mobility and strength, improve circulation, promote bone, ligament and tendon strength, and help prevent health problems.
Elevating mood and memory
Physical activity is not only good for your body, but it's also great for your mind. Being active releases chemicals in your brain that make you feel good - boosting your self-esteem and helping you concentrate as well as sleep well and feel better. Regular movement can help you decrease the level of stress, resolving symptoms of anxiety and depression.
Emerging research supports that physical movement helps the brain form neural pathways, which increases cognition, focus, improve memory and help us to acquire knowledge faster. Physical activity increases oxygen to the brain, which is critical for attention and learning.
Generating energy
Your body uses electricity to communicate and control parts of the body. We need energy to enable growth and repair of tissues, to maintain body temperature and to fuel physical activity. Though all cells have ionic gradients across their membranes, the most well known organ systems that use electricity are the brain, the muscles, and the heart.
For the body to make any movement, the muscles are working together to contract and release tension, moving the bones. Muscle contraction and nerve impulse induction all require the presence of electrical signals. Since the last century, researchers have discovered that there is a piezoelectric effect in bone, which generates an electrical signal when compression is applied to the bone.
The constant compression through movement of piezoelectric minerals in the bones causes a huge amount of energy to be generated, so by moving the body we are not only using the energy of the nutrients from food, but also generating our own energy, power and electricity from within.
Trasforming stagnancy and emotions
Fascia connects different regions of the body and facilitates the transfer of energy from contracting muscles to bones through fascial pathways. Fascia is the collagen of stringy stuff that surrounds the tissues in your body. It encases nerves, muscles, tendons, joints, and bones and acts as a communication system, carrying electrical signals between muscle groups and nerve endings.
Scientific evidence shows that fascia is not only responsible for helping our muscles move and many other physical functions, but also responds to emotions and environment. So, the next time you're feeling stressed or emotional, remember that it's not all in your head – it could be in your fascia too. Sometimes emotional trauma or stressors can result in physical symptoms because the memory of the trauma is stored in the fascia.
You can nourish fascia and the vagus nerve by attending to your body and mind through sensory awareness, conscious breathing, stretching and mindful movement. These tools help you to transform and heal stress and negative emotions from the past.
Manifesting your visions
When we look at ourselves from a holistic perspective, viewing the world as a creation of energy, we can see our body as a beautiful Divine tehnology that we can learn to manage properly. From the quantum physics perspective the world of energy is maintained, changed and created by the observing mind and consciousness.
In psychology we can look at the mind in three main ways- the conscious mind, the subconscious mind, and the unconscious mind. The conscious aspect is the voluntary, your direct choices, but the subconscious and unconscious are running on their own in the background with programs wired by your past reactions and actions, maintaned by the muscle and facia memory.
So that means- the way we move really matters. Because every motion combined with thought and emotion creates who we are, how we think, feel and what action we will take next. We can program and reprogram our body and perception with the movement, transforming and clearing the cells from unnecessary information and storing new beneficial energy. To reflect, radiate and move as our best self.
To sum up
It's movement that promotes overall wellbeing from healthy joints, strong bones, physical strength, good circulation; including cardiovascular circulation, good coordination and reflex reactivity to improved learning skills and concentration, mental and also emotional and spiritual well-being.
The body holds our life story and communicates important messages for healing and self development. When we learn to listen to its messages through conscious daily movement we will be guided to places deep within that are calling out for attention, clearing, and support.
So knowing the power of this simple, natural and creative thing that is- the movement, our inspiration is to ignite your curiosity for discovering your own inner and outher alchemy through movement.
